THE ENTR’ACTE, 2019
A two-minute video shot in one take, with no cuts and no editing other than color grading. The different scenes were therefore created through the layers produced in the multiplicity of trains parallel one to the other.
Entr’acte is the pause or gap that separates one scene from the next, and the subway functions in the same manner. It is an interval that brings individuals together in one moment, but separates them in another. We are constantly in close physical contact to people whom we don’t know the story of; we don’t know where they come from, nor where they’re going, yet we cross the same paths for a brief point in time. It is a place where one is neutral, detached, or disconnected. An empty space.
Black and white was used in the creation of the work as the location’s light, texture, and profusion of color would have distracted the audience from the subject matter itself.
